Harp meets Philip Glass and Depeche Mode

“Musical thoughts reduced to a few ideas and joined together into small flowing units”, that is how the Vienna-based harpist Michal Matejčík describes the music of Philip Glass. Playing Glass’ compositions on the harp is closer than one might think, as Glass himself has collaborated with Dutch harpist Lavinia Maier in transcribing the pieces. In the first part of the concert, Matejčík presents a selection of works from “Metamorphosis & Etudes”.

The second part is dedicated to the band Depeche Mode and places the arrangements of world-famous pop songs for harp at the center of attention. The members of the synth-pop-rock band Depeche Mode have been inspired by numerous artists throughout their career, and the repetitive motifs in the music of Philip Glass had a significant influence on the band in the 80s.

In March 2023, the new Depeche Mode album “Memento Mori” has been released.
